Recreating a historic exhibition, an historic place as it used to be etc.
The project at the Institute of Franconian Regional History continues an already existing initiative. It focuses on a early 19th to 20th-century exhibition by the von Giech family at Thurnau Castle, showcasing their (art-)historical objects.
The "Rothes Zimmer" (Red Room), named for its wallpaper color, was the exhibition's highlight.
The collection now belongs to the von Giech family heirs, the Hiller von Gaertringen family. Many objects are no longer in their original location, with some key pieces sold.
The project aims to digitally reconstruct the Red Room as a virtual tour. At project start, 3D models of the room and some objects are already available. Efforts will be made to locate objects no longer owned by the Hiller von Gaertringen family.
3D models of the objects are created using photogrammetry.
The project is going to be showcased in courses at the Institute of Franconian Regional History, demonstrating historical narration through XR technology.
Knowledge for creating virtual exhibitions is going to be transferred, ensuring project maintenance and future continuation. The virtual exhibition is going to be released as an XR application for university teaching. Additionally, it is going to be accessible to the public as a web application on the Internet.
